Guidelines for attending a successful Zoom Lecture
All lectures take place on the Zoom MEETING platform.
You do not need a Zoom account to attend a Zoom presentation, but you will have to download
the software. We encourage that you download the Zoom Desktop Client (or app) to your
device (at www.zoom.us) well ahead of the event for easier and more efficient access to the
presentation. Once downloaded and installed, you can open the Zoom program (app) and click
“Join” or enter a Meeting ID. If you choose not to download it and join the meeting using the
URL link, be prepared for your computer to ask your permission to “launch” Zoom. The easiest
way to join the lecture is to click on the Zoom link you receive from your dealer.
You can watch the Zoom presentation on a desktop or laptop computer, tablet, or smartphone.
It will appear differently on each type of device. A desktop/laptop is recommended for the best
experience, although tablets work just as well. A Smartphone is the least desirable platform
because of the smaller screen size. Ensure the sound is on and the volume is at a level that you
Each Zoom session will last for one hour and consist of live presentations, PowerPoint slides,
and videos. Included at the end of the hour will be a 5 to 10-minute question and answer
When you first log into the lecture, you’ll find yourself in a virtual waiting room. The SVP
Educator will check your name that you logged in with to the list of attendees. Logging into
Zoom with your proper name is very important for an efficient entry to the Zoom lecture.
This precaution is to prevent uninvited guests from attending.
If you’re new to Zoom or uncertain if your audio/video is working, you can test the audio/video
when you are in the waiting room. The audio/video controls are in the bottom left-hand corner
of the screen on a computer and the top right-hand corner for an iPad.
The SVP Educator will MUTE everyone during the lecture to eliminate disruptive background
noises. Remember, unless your MUTE button is activated, you have an OPEN mike. You have
the ability to MUTE and UNMUTE yourself, but we strongly suggest you keep yourself MUTED
during the presentation. You may or may not turn on your video, but we’ve found it more
personable if the presenter and the other attendees can see you.
You can open the chat window on your screen, and you can post a question or comment to the
entire group or just to the presenter. Depending on the lecture, the SVP Educator may allow
you to UNMUTE to ask your question.
To increase the Zoom lecture quality, you may need to shut down all other programs that use
your internet connection, such as e-mail, Facebook, etc. The strength of the hardwire or Wi-Fi
signal may also affect the quality of the presentations.
